CERT Solutions are working with a two-form entry primary school in Lozells who searching for a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a young girl with autism .
This is full-time, long-term role, is ideal for someone with experience with ASC and who is passionate about special educational needs (SEN).
You will be required to support the child throughout the day in both classroom and breakout settings. You will make a meaningful impact on her learning by helping to keep her engaged in learning activities and offering nurturing support.
Ideally the school are looking for someone to start after February half term.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualised support to a young girl with autism, helping her access the curriculum and engage in learning.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to implement tailored strategies.
- Support the child with communication, social skills, and emotional regulation in a nurturing and structured manner.
- Assist with differentiated learning activities and help her develop confidence and independence.
- Use visual supports, sensory strategies, and behaviour management techniques to create a positive learning environment.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, CACHE, or a degree in Education, Psychology, or SEN-related fields.Experience working with children with autism and SEN (in a school, childcare, or support setting).
- Understanding of EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans) and the ability to follow personalised learning plans.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with the child, staff, and parents.
- Ability to use visual aids, Makaton, PECS, or other communication methods (desirable but not essential).
- A patient, calm, and nurturing approach, with the ability to adapt to the child’s changing needs.
